After facing a few challenges to get back in her field, a Nigerian nurse became an RN in Canada
When Thelma and her husband decided to immigrate to Canada, she had been working as a registered nurse in Nigeria for three years. Even though Thelma began the process of becoming an RN in Canada before her arrival, she could not anticipate how expensive it was going to be. The advisory report from the National Nursing Assessment Service (NNAS) indicated that Thelma needed to take 13 courses and complete additional clinical hours to receive a license to practice in Canada. In need of financial support, Thelma applied for a Windmill Microlending loan. She became a member of the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) a few years after landing in Canada. In January 2017, Thelma got a job as an RN working in the psychiatry department. Read her success story.
